Weather Bomb, update

As you can see, the nor'easter is right on top of us at 11am. Now I understand why they call it a nor'easter. Once the system is on top of us, the rotation of the winds means what's actually hitting us is coming from the northeast, even though the system itself is moving toward the northeast from the southwest.

As of 8am this morning, we'd gotten 15 cm of snow, and expecting another 15 or 20 through the day. It's not so much the snow as the wind that's really wild though. It's blowing off the top of a drift onto the side of my car so hard I have to wonder if there will be any paint left when this is all over. There's a huge drift behind the car, and the snow plow just went by half an hour ago and left a giant deposit of snow at the end of the driveway.

I was supposed to attend a conference all day today at a hotel a block from my office. Obviously, at almost 11 am, I haven't made it in. I'm really freaking about it...partly because I didn't want to miss this meeting and the info I could get from it, and partly because I dont' want my colleagues to think I'm a wimp who didn't try hard enough to get there. I haven't been able to reach many of them.

One of the people I did reach actually lives further from the office than I do. Her brother in law drove her to work...I guess he has a four-wheel drive or something. And there's another guy a couple clicks away from me...I don't know if he made it in or not. I hope not.

I suppose I shouldn't fret about it so much. I'm too responsible. LOL. I bet most people at work would say "don't sweat it, it's no big deal." I've been trying all morning to get through to a cab. I decided that if I can get a cab to the ferry, I'll go in, but I can't get a cab!! And it's getting to the point where it's almost not worth bothering going in. *sigh*

On the bright side, it appears that the snow has stopped falling. From the sky. It's still blowing like crazy, and that's just as bad. I heard there was a huge drift of snow on top of an ice slick right on the highway up near the airport this morning. Charming. Gotta love the Canadian winter! And the Maritime Canadian winter appears to be even worse!
