Well, if you follow this blog, you'll know I'm on vacation this week.
You know, I think vacation is the natural state for a human being to be in. It just feels right. You come and go as you please (within the limits of your dad's schedule, at least, cuz he's the one with the car). You get fed well, you can sleep as much as you want. All the good stuff.
This week has been great. I accomplished my main goal of finding a new apartment. I've made all my moving arrangements. Now I can go back to Halifax and spend the next three weeks winding things down there, getting ready to move and writing up my final report.
Unfortunately, I have to go back to Halifax for a few days in the middle of January for the wrap-meeting. That's where I'll present my final report. Then after that, my life returns to normal. At least, until the next big project comes along.
I do hope there will be more big projects. I'll get bored if I have to just do my regular job all the time and never have anything else to do.
But, this post was supposed to be about my vacation!
We had a bad storm here yesterday. Rain, Snow, ice pellets, freezing rain, wind. It was tres nasty. But today the sky is as blue as you can imagine and the sun is shining its little heart out. That's Ottawa for ya.
Today's my last full day of holidays. Tomorrow I have to go back to Halifax. We'll be heading off to breakfast soon - a daily treat when I stay with my folks. And I guess I'll be doing this again when I first get back from Nova Scotia. I have to stay here for eight days between when I arrive back in Ottawa and my moving day. That'll mean I have to commute to the office through town for three days after New Year's. That'll be fun. Not. But it's only three days. I'll survive. I just hope there isn't any bad weather during that time!
Okay...I'm just blathering, no one cares about this stuff. Over and out for now.

Woohoo!!
I've found my new home!
The main purpose for me coming home to Ottawa this week (besides having some R&R) was to find myself an apartment. As you know, I'm moving back to Ottawa at the end of December. I'd had to give up my apartment when I went to Halifax, so this week was all about replacing it.
On Monday, Jack drove me all over the east end. I had a copy of Renter's News and I went in and saw about four places. One or two really appealed to me, but I was concerned about the price, as they didn't include all utilities. One even had outdoor-only parking with no plug-ins, plus the balcony was really close to the ground, which made me nervous in spite of the landlord's insistence that there's never been a problem with breakins.
So we went out again on Tuesday...I'd made some appointments to see apartments I'd found on the web from Halifax last week. The first one was that one with no indoor parking. The second was a big 2-bedroom. The rent works out to $10 more a month than I'd been paying before I moved to Halifax, and I'd been trying to find something that would have saved me about $100 a month. But once I saw this place, I knew I had to have it.
Nice big two-bedroom, fully carpeted. The second bedroom has a powder room attached !! There's even a storage room inside the apartment. The laundry is right on the same floor, so no more lugging laundry down in the elevator. It faces away from the main road, so it should be nice and quiet, plus the unit is on a corner, so two sides face the outside, a third side faces the concret stairwell, and the fourth side adjoins the next apartment. So it should be super quiet. The bathroom and bedrooms are at the opposite end of the suite from the entrance too, which is always nice. Oh, and there's windows on two sides in the main room. Very groovy.
Carpets are beige, so I'll probably get myself a couple of large area rugs for under my desk, and in front of the couch. Can't decide which bedroom to use for myself. I'm tempted to use the one with the powder room. These days I'm up once or twice every night to pee, so I could just roll out of bed, bathroom's right there, and there you go! Also can't decide if I should put my desk and computer in the second bedroom. If I do, I'll want a TV in there. Bill has said he can easily set up a cable splitter so I could have two TVs. That'd be cool. I like to watch the tube while I'm on the computer. Then my big TV can be for rented movies and favourite shows when I actually sit down and just watch tv.
Oh, I'm so excited! I'm going over there again today to sign the lease. I'm hoping to get in and take some pictures, so if I do, I'll post them here when I get back to NS and get them downloaded.
