Countdown: 3...

Last day of work at the Ottawa office. I went in not knowing what to expect. Mostly the day was spent packing up my office, finishing up a couple of odd jobs. We found out that the President of our division, AND the CFO are both leaving the company. A little disturbing, but my ex-boss insists that it won't have any impact at all on the business. Maybe a slight dip in the price of our stock for a few days, but it will come back up again after the dust settles.

All in all it was a quiet day. I finished up the performance evaluations on my staff (ex-staff), and had my own evaluation with my boss. It was informal, as he couldn't find the paperwork from my previous boss last January. So we just had a good long talk about things. I was very frank with him, and he was very, very receptive to what I had to say. I told him that the opportunity I'd had to work on the big project I did in 2005 came as a result of my career aspirations sharing my goals with my old boss during a performance review in January 2004. So, I said, I now believe in the process of career advancement in this company and would share with him what I hoped for myself in the future.

It was a good conversation. I won't have to worry about it for a year or so though. For now, my job is to go do this project in Halifax and knock their socks right off.

So there was no hoopla about my leaving. A few people stopped by my office on their way home and made me cry. LOL. I found it was helpful to get the goodbye and the hug over with right away and then chat about general stuff for a few minutes before just waving and smiling and saying "so long for now." Got out without any serious blubbering and spent the evening packing the stuff I need to send to Halifax today.
