One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen:
A full house at Scotiabank Place for game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals; Lyndon Slewidge singing Oh Canada, and the whole crowd singing along. If that wasn't great enough (cuz Ottawa crowds often don't sing along), but then, in the last refrain, he stops singing and lets the crowd take over. And oh man, did they belt it out. I've never heard a more beautiful thing in my life. And through it all a HUMUNGOUS Canadian flag was being passed hand to hand along the back of the 200 row seats. I think everyone in the audience was wearing red.
The Americans seem to think they have the corner on the Patriotism market. But they've never met a true Canadian. I actually stood up through the entire anthem, and had tears streaming down my face. I can never actually sing it because I always get so choked up with pride and love for my amazing country. I applauded when it was done because it was just so wonderful.
Too bad they can't bottle that. Maybe if everyone in the world realized that everyone else in the world feels that way about their own country, we'd stop trying to kill each other and just live peacefully in our own places.
