The good, the bad and the ugly - April 2, 2008

It's been a bit of an up and down week! Therefore a Good, Bad and Ugly post is in order.

The Good: I'm on vacation this week!

The Bad: I fell down at the movie theatre last night. Tonia and I got there just as the lights went down. As I turned into the row of seats, I didn't see that half of the opening was a step down, while the other half was floor level. I guess my foot went down weird on the step side, I started falling, thought I'd caught myself on the back of the seat to my right, but then just lost it and went down on my knees, catching the front of my upper left arm on the arm of one of the chairs on my way down.

OUCH!

Surprisingly, my knees didn't hurt at all, which is usually what gets injured the worst if I fall on them. It was my arm that hurt. A burning, aching, throbbing that wouldn't go away and I just knew I'd have a bad bruise in a few hours. Sure enough, three hours later, it was starting to show, and now I have a truly awful looking eggplant-coloured bruise on my arm. And since my nap this afternoon, my shoulder and upper arm are all achey and sore too, like I strained the muscles. Weird place to hurt yourself in a fall, but there ya go.

The Ugly: So, Monday afternoon I'm sitting here minding my own business at home, enjoying the first official day of my holiday. The phone rings. It's my boss. He was worried because it was looking like it might be difficult to get all the work done this week. So, good little manager that I am, I offered to come in on Thursday if needed. Take note that I had already made my peace with the idea that I had to go in on Friday to attend a special training session. But finding out I'd probably lose Thursday also just totally ruined the idea that I was "on vacation" and turned it into a few days off in the middle of a normal work period. Not happy-making.

After I got off the phone, I realized I'd been sweating like crazy during the conversation. Can you say "stress" boys and girls? Ya think this is telling me something?

Anyway...nuff said about that.

The GOOD (redux): I picked up a phone message after the movie last night. The training session Friday is postponed, so this means they should be able to get all the work done without me, and I can have the WHOLE week off, and not just four days as anticipated. Colour me HAPPY!
