Five-Book Meme

1. Take five books off your bookshelf.
( Deliberately chose only novels)
2. Book #1 -- first sentence (The Last Canadian, William C Heine)
3. Book #2 -- last sentence on page fifty (A Painted House, John Grisham)
4. Book #3 -- second sentence on page one hundred (Lady Chatterly's Lover, DH Lawrence)
5. Book #4 -- next to the last sentence on page one hundred fifty (Drums of Autumn, Diana Gabaldon)
6. Book #5 -- final sentence of the book
7. Make the five sentences into a paragraph:

In the few seconds that "Special Bulletin" had been on the screen before the announcer's voice began, his heart beat faster. It happened in a flash and nobody saw it but me. She looked up at him with bright, startled eyes, then murmured obediently. His sceptical look changed to one of pleased surprise and he chewed with increasing enthusiasm, tossing the other nuts into his mouth. Although his imagination spun a thousand bloody scenarios in mere seconds, he said that he did not anticipate what was about to happen, and of course he could not foresee how the events of that night would reverberate through the next thirty years with such terrible and astonishing consequences in his life and mine.

(Wow...very cool that it hangs together so well!)
