Two things on my mind this evening just before heading to bed.
One: I read several blogs by people in the Ottawa area. People I don't know and who don't know me. Now and then I am inspired to leave a comment on a particular post. I've noticed that all of these people reject my comment so it never appears on their blog.
Two: Tonia got me curious about Facebook so, yeah, I caved in and register for a Facebook profile. I'm not really sure what the point is yet. It's as if the whole point is just to collect people. Sure, you can spend hours in there looking at people's profiles and mining deeper and deeper into their friends lists to see if you know anyone twelve times removed from the person whose profile you're reading. So? Facebook is an exceedingly cumbersome tool for communication. There are many far better ways to communicate online. So it just remains...it's a place to collect people. For some Facebook users, the people they collect are probably so far removed from their personal circle of friends (online or in real life) that they might as well be total strangers.
So, here we have, on one hand, strangers rejecting an innocent, friendly comment on a blog entry, and on the other hand, strangers adding each other to their friends list for all the world to see.
This does not compute.
