A few things I noticed today:
I'm in my office on the fourth floor downtown around 4:30pm, and out of the corner of my eye I see a bright flash of colour down in the street. I look down, and there's a figure wearing the brightest yellow-green neon coloured mittens I've ever seen. You can't even imagine how bright they were. They practically glowed. Then I notice the wearer of these mittens is a full-grown man, striding purposfully down the street as if he's got an appointment with the Prime Minister. A little later, I was walking toward the ferry terminal and the same man comes from behind and passes me and gets into a car, pulling the mitts off as if there's nothing at all unusual about them. I wanted to call out "Don't lose your mitts often, do ya buddy!" LOL. But I didn't.
At the ferry terminal, waiting for the green light to board, I noticed some motion outside. Look up and see the captain of the ferry tossing the leftovers of his lunch out onto the roof of the boarding platform for the gulls that started gathering like ants to a picnic. Scraping it out, one spoonful at a time, and tossing it out for them like they were his best friends. If you can call garbage disposals friends, I guess. LOL
And the best...
Crossing on the ferry, I sat at the end facing Halifax. A little way across, the setting sun started blasting into my eyes between the buildings downtown. The only way I could avoid it, short of getting up and moving to a different seat, was to close my eyes and lower my head. I regretted not being able to watch the waves, and felt a bit annoyed by the harsh sunlight. But after a few moments with my eyes closed and head lowered, the loud hum of the engines combined with the low buzz of voices discussing the day's work. The sun felt warm on my cheeks and gradually I began to float into a light fugue. It was so pleasant. It was like dozing lightly on the couch on Sunday afternoons when I was a kid, with a football game in the background. Like the hypnotic calm I often get when having my hair cut. When the boat turned and the sun turned to shadow, I opened my eyes feeling almost like I'd had a little nap. Lovely.
