Hey, wait a minute...I thought...

I thought when I stopped being the production manager, I'd be able to concentrate on one task without having to stop constantly to fulfill other requests that keep coming in.

Not so, it seems!

After three days of getting myself settled in my new office, figuring out where everything is, fixing up my email etc., etc., I finally got around to doing some research yesterday afternoon. So what happens? I get a call from my old boss reminding me of a "little" job I promised to do for her.

And today, I got a call from my new boss, who wants me to tiddyvate a Powerpoint presentation for him.

*sigh*

And both jobs will have to be done on my own time, as they both need to be done on a Mac...and I don't have a Mac anymore! Ohh, wait...I can probably work on the spare one downstairs. Yeah...that's what I'll do.

Anyway, other than that, I had a really nice day today. Did a lot of reading online, but still mostly just finding stuff to read later at the moment. Taking LOTS of notes, writing down questions I'm asking myself along the way, trying to learn as much as possible.

I have a lot to learn. I don't want to screw up or look silly because I wasn't aware of something that everyone else knows from day one. That's part of the reason for all the research I want to do before I actually begin coming up with any concepts. I also need to reread all the notes I took at the two multi-day meetings I attended in Halifax this fall, and the reading material that I collected there and which, I'm told, is being sent to me (2 binders full of it!! Ack!).

But even with the "extra" demands from my bosses, things are still infinitely calmer at work for me now than they were when I was being a production manager. I'm loving it. I realllly don't envy my replacement taking over my job. I'm thankful for it, actually. This next year will seem like a holiday compared to what I'm used to. I'm going to have to figure out a way, when I get back to Ottawa at the end of the year, to change my job description to something that pays the same, but isn't nearly as stressful. If I come back at the end of the year and have to dive right back into that same pool of vipers, I'll probably end up quitting within months.

So, we had one of those snowy days in Ottawa today. Started around 2pm and by the time it got to be 4:00 I decided to leave early and try to get home before the rest of the city took to the streets. Had no problems at all. I filled up with gas before getting on the highway so I wouldn't have to worry if I got delayed. Put on the ice-walkers my Mum gave me (thanks Mum!...they work GREAT!) took my time and just enjoyed the snow. The roads were fine, but I fishtailed just a teeny bit when I turned off of Walkley onto Hawthorne. I think intersections are bad because cars sit there for a few minutes and the snow under them gets half-melted and then starts freezing again when it's exposed...creates a very slick surface to drive on. No problems though. I just hope we don't have too many days like that this winter...and goodness knows what I should expect in Halifax!

Anyway...I'm rambling. BOring! And look...Inked is on! Ciao for niao!
